I am originally from the Philippines and started working at ABC Palokka in 2023. Before this, I worked in kitchens on cruise ships, traveling around the world. However, I wanted to settle down and work on land, and luckily, I was given an opportunity here in Finland, and I’m loving it!What are you especially proud of in your work? Throughout my career, whenever I’m on duty or preparing a dish, receiving positive feedback, as well as constructive criticism, from colleagues and especially from customers fills me with pride and gratitude for everything I’ve learned over the years. It is truly a pleasure and an honor for me to cook and prepare food for anyone.What does a typical workday look like for you? My workday usually starts early, around 7 or 8 in the morning. First, I check all the kitchen equipment and review any group reservations. Then I make sure we have everything we need for the day, checking stocks and preparing ingredients. After that, I start cooking the day’s menu and set up the salad table before 10, ensuring everything is fresh and tasty.Once the lunch buffet and salads are ready, I move on to preparing food and salads for the next day. Throughout my shift, I focus on quality control, checking taste, presentation, garnish, and temperature. I also make sure the buffet area stays clean and that everything is refilled promptly.Which colleague do you admire and why? And if you could swap roles for one day with a colleague or someone from Keskimaa, who would it be and why?I admire my manager Liina because she manages to balance everything, working both in the office and in the kitchen. That’s why I would love to swap roles with her for a day, to challenge myself and learn more about what her job involves.What do you do in your spare time?I enjoy walking in forests or any peaceful, quiet place while listening to music. I also love playing video games with friends online, hanging out, having fun, and helping whenever I can. What I enjoy the most is taking long drives to places I’ve never been, watching sunsets and beautiful scenery. And lastly, I’m passionate about tuning and setting up cars!What skill would you like to learn next?I would really love to learn Finnish so I can communicate better every day and make more friends! Seeing my colleagues and friends smile, along with cheerful, satisfied customers, is what makes an ordinary workday special. Työpäivät alkavat aikaisin ja koostuvat huolellisesta valmistelusta, ruoanlaitosta, laadunvalvonnasta ja buffetin ylläpidosta. Hän ihailee esihenkilöään, joka työskentelee sekä keittiössä että toimistossa, ja haluaisi oppia lisää tämän työnkuvasta. Vapaa-ajallaan Eugene nauttii luonnossa liikkumisesta, pelaamisesta, autoilusta ja autojen parissa työskentelystä. Tulevaisuudessa hän haluaa oppia suomen kieltä paremman arjen ja yhteisöllisyyden vuoksi. Tiimin tuki ja yhteenkuuluvuuden tunne ovat saaneet hänet kokemaan, että ABC-porukka on hänen perheensä Suomessa.
